About the Stronger MT Hack

 

Bring your hacker mindset to help strengthen our state. The Stronger MT Hack is for builders who want to solve big challenges to improve our region’s resiliency. The Hackathon themes or prompts will be announced two weeks before the event.

The Process

Register for the Scaling MT Summit and indicate if you are interested in participating in the hackathon in your registration.

 

Full scholarships for students are available courtesy of First Interstate Bank (Limit 25). For Scholarship opportunities, email jenni@scalingmt.org. 

Once you are registered, you will receive a pre-event email with hackathon prompts. Begin brainstorming your solution and come ready to share your idea/solution on 10/23 at 10AM. You can plan to work alone, bring your team, or join a team upon arrival to develop a solution.

 

Note that only 10 ideas will be selected to participate in the hackathon, so your idea may not be selected, so come ready to lead or join a team.

10/23

  • 10AM – Stronger MT Hack participants check in at The Armory
  • 10:30 – Idea pitches begin,  followed by team formation process (only 10 ideas will advance) 
  • 12:30 – Teams are formed and the work begins!
    • Move to the SideCar to begin work – lunch will be served there for all participants. 
    • Teams will have access to the Sidecar to work on their solutions until 1 PM on Thursday. 
    • All meals will be provided.

  • 11 AM -Semi-finals at SideCar – pitch presentations to determine which final four teams who will participate in the Showcase. 
  • 12 PM – The final four are announced – These teams have one hour to refine their pitch and prepare for the mainstage – final presentations or prototypes must be submitted by 1 PM to Hackathon Manager.
  • 2 PM -Stronger MT Hack Showcase begins at The Armory – Final Four pitch for over $15K in prizes
  • 3:45 PM – winners are announced (see prizes and pitch descriptions below) 
  • 4 PM – Stronger MT Celebration Sponsored by First Interstate Bank

The Pitch

Teams have just 5 minutes to present and share on stage using a slide deck, video, a physical or digital prototype, a working model, 3D rendering, or any other method to explain their idea/solution. 

 

Teams must be ready to articulate the following before a panel of judges clearly:

 

1. The Problem

2. The Solution

3. The Impact

 

Winning Categories

Moonshot – Awarded to the team with the most revolutionary idea

 

Ready to Launch – Awarded to the team with the most actionable idea, ready to begin tomorrow

 

Best Use of Data or AI – Awarded to the team with the best use of datasets, leveraging existing LLMs, etc. 

 

People’s Choice – Awarded to the crowd favorite!
